Homework Policy

two smiling altura studentsAt Altura Elementary, we believe that children’s time outside of school should allow for rest, play, family connection, and exploration of personal interests. Because our students engage in rich, rigorous learning throughout the school day, we do not assign traditional homework in preschool through 5th grade—except in rare or exceptional circumstances.

That said, teachers are always happy to share resources, activities, or skill practice ideas with families who wish to reinforce learning at home. These optional materials are meant to support—not stress—families. Students will never be penalized for not completing practice activities, even if requested by parents.

With one less nightly obligation, we hope our no-homework approach supports more relaxed evenings and earlier bedtimes for our students!
