We continue to have issues with the use of cell phones by our 4th and 5th graders during school hours which is causing regular disruptions to learning as well as escalated social issues amongst students. In order to avoid peer pressure, potentially bullying situations or targeting of students via social media at school (which is often occurring at recess or when students ask to use the bathroom) we will be instilling a phone collection policy for 4th and 5th grade. This will require students to hand in their phones to their classroom teacher upon arrival to their classroom and they will be redistributed before the dismissal bell so that they are able to communicate with you on their route home. Any students refusing to have their phone collected will have it taken by administration and will require a parent pick up for return. As students are not to be using their cell phones at any time during the day, emergency calls will need to be made to the office at 303-340-3500 in order to leave a message for your student. While teachers will be securing the phones during the day, if you have concerns about phones being out of your student’s possession, we ask that you keep said phones at home rather than bring them to school to begin with.
We appreciate your support in working to keep our learning environment safe and focused on academics.
